In Earth Science, the students are currently learning about rocks and minerals. Last week we completed a rock lab, which allowed students to simulate the rock cycle with crayons. The students transformed sediment (crayon shavings) into sedimentary rocks, then metamorphic rocks by adding heat and pressure, and finally igneous rocks by adding more heat. This week, we will be conducting a lab exploring the properties of minerals.
The science homework requires students to create a travel brochure on the Rock Cycle. The assignment can downloaded below; it includes a description of the assignment, an example, and the rubric that the students will be graded with. The rubric is a useful tool to help guide your child and ensure that they are including all of the information that is asked of them in their brochure.
The brochure should be done neatly in pencil at first, they may add color at the end. Drawings or pictures should be done in color as well, if possible. I have sent home the packet below, along with paper that has already been folded into a brochure. The students will be assigned a bit of the brochure each night for homework, but they may hand it in early if they choose.
Food and Nutrition – Healthy Skin, Hair, and Nails
Establishing and maintaining good health requires the development of a positive attitude and behavior toward health. Healthy habits are a key requirement for good health. Staying in good health requires making informed decisions about the use of health products and services. Knowledge of our body and how it may be affected by environmental factors is also important to achieve good health.
Students will be creating a “How to” booklet on keeping healthy. The assignment and rubric can be downloaded by clicking the two links below. It includes a description of the assignment, an example, and the rubric that the students will be graded with. The rubric is a useful tool to help guide your child and ensure that they are including all of the information that is asked of them in their booklet.
Students will be working on their booklet both in class and for homework.
